In my last post I discussed the basic tools needed to get started as an Internet Marketer. These tools were:

  1. A squeeze page
  2. An autoresponder
  3. A domain name
  4. A hosting service
  5. A series of emails
  6. A product to promote

Now I want to take you on the very first step you need to accomplish before you can really start making money with Affiliate Marketing. Most people think the first step involves a tool or some special training. It doesn’t and there is some controversy between successful Internet Marketers as to just what is the right for you.

The first step you need to accomplish.

It may sound simple when you first hear it and in all honesty it isn’t something I consciously did when I first started out. I believe this is why I got off to a slow start.

Th first thing you should do is decide what niche you want to promote. Notice I said niche and not product. There is a number of questions you need to ask yourself.

  1. What do I really enjoy doing?
  2. What am I good at doing?
  3. What do other people come to me for all the time?
  4. What are my hobbies?
  5. What are my passions?

When you have answered the above questions even only partially, you will know the niche you want to promote.

What others successful in Internet Marketing say.

Bob “the teacher” Jenkins says that you should not worry about what that niche is, only that you are passionate about it. He has a good point and has established himself as very knowledgeable in his niche of teaching Internet Marketing to Affiliate marketing beginners.

On the other hand Derrick Van Dyke “Affiliate Cash Secrets” says you should follow your passions but make sure you can put that passion to use in the self improvement arena. In this he is talking about products that help others to make money, get out of debt, feel better, look better, etc. His point is that this is a niche that covers so many different areas that are inner related that the market is tremendous.

What Sim says on Affiliate Marketing.

My suggestion is to ask your self the questions above, determine what you enjoy and are passionate about, find or develop products that are in that field, use the product to make sure it is of value to you, then promote it to your niche.

Another suggestion, before you start promoting to you list, after you build a list, make sure what you are promoting is something your list is interested in.
